Spondyloarthritis is a group of inflammatory diseases that cause arthritis. It differs from other types of arthritis because it also causes inflammation in the areas called entheses, where ligaments and tendons attach to bones. Ligaments are tissues that connect bones to each other, and tendons are tissues that connect bones to muscles. Spondyloarthritis is a leading cause of lower back pain, arthritis of peripheral joints such as the arms and legs, and eye problems. It mostly affects teenagers and people in their twenties, especially young men.
