This causes pain and inflammation in and around the joints. Psoriasis causes inflammation of the skin. Psoriasis rashes are discolored patches of skin covered in scales. These thick, scaly areas are called plaques. It can also make fingernails and toenails thicker and appear flaky or pitted.
