Reactive arthritis is joint pain and swelling caused by an infection elsewhere in the body, most commonly in the intestines, genitals, or urinary tract. This condition usually affects the knees, ankles, and feet. The inflammation can also affect the eyes, skin, and the tube that carries urine out of the body (urethra). In the past, reactive arthritis was sometimes called Reiter's syndrome.
